MEETING COUNCIL OF EUROPE – BiH CEC

Sarajevo, August 22, 2013 – Members of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, headed by the President Stjepan Mikić, met yesterday in Sarajevo with the Head of the CoE Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina Mary Ann Hennessey.

The main topic of the meeting was preparation for the 2014 General Elections from the aspect of changes and addenda to the BiH Election Law.

During the meeting president Mikić pointed out the problems the BiH Central Election Commission could face if the legal gaps in the BiH Election Law are not closed, primarily referring to the provisions that have been removed by the Decision of the BiH Constitutional Court and which refer to the number of constituencies and the names of associated municipalities from Republika Srpska for the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly. The interlocutors also pointed out the problem of implementing existing provisions of the BiH Election Law related to the gender representation in the election management bodies. Also the implementation of the decision in Sejdic-Finci case was discussed.

At the end of the meeting Mary Ann Hennessey and president Mikić expressed mutual satisfaction with the existing cooperation between the BiH Central Election Commission and the Council of Europe, and agreed to continue the good practice.
