GLOBAL ELECTION DAY

Sarajevo, February 05, 2015 – On the occasion of the initiative of the Association of Election Officials of Europe to traditionally celebrate the first Thursday in February as the Global Election Day the Central Election Commission organized today Conference “Necessity of changing the election-related legislation and voter turnout trends in Bosnia and Herzegovina”.

Mr. Stjepan Mikić, president of the BiH CEC, Mrs. Borjana Krišto, first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives of the BiH PA, H.E. Ambassador Jonathan Moore, Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH and Mrs. Mary Ann Hennessey, Head of the Office of Council of Europe in BiH opened the Conference.

„Voter turnout and trends in BiH”, “Role of the civil society organizations and advancement of voter turnout in BiH” and “Changes to the election-related legislation” are the topics presented at the conference by members of the BiH CEC Mr. Vlado Rogić, Mr. Branko Petrić and dr. Ahmet Šantić.

The events organized to celebrate Global Election Day focus on topics that promote importance of democratic elections as the main pillar of the democracy and democratic culture, while discussing challenges of organizing free and fair elections are discussed.
