2016 LOCAL ELECTIONS-MAIN INFORMATION

Sarajevo, September 29, 2016 – Local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina are held on Sunday, October 2, 2016. The polling stations are open from 07:00 to 19:00 hours. After a voter shows one of valid BiH identification documents (ID card, driving license, passport) he/she will receive a combination of ballots to which he/she is entitled according to the law. Secrecy of the vote is secured at the polling station.
Voters can check location of their polling station by vising the BiH CEC’s website www.izbori.ba and opening the link “Are you registered”. All fields have to be completed (name, last name and national identification number). Furthermore, voters can check the location of polling station by sending a SMS to number 091 12 12 12. The message has only to contain the national identification number. The price of a message is 0,10KM+PDV. The third way of checking is for a voter to contact the municipal Center for voters’ register or to call info line of the BiH CEC at 033/251-331 or 033/251-332.

       Local Elections are held for
 

  • 74 Municipal Councils in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina,
  • 57 Municipal Assemblies in the Republika Srpska,
  • 131 mayors of municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina,
  • 4 City Councils in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bihać, Tuzla, Zenica and Široki Brijeg);
  • 6 City Assemblies in Republika Srpska (Prijedor, Bijeljina, Banja Luka, Doboj, Zvornik and Trebinje);
  • 10 City mayors in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and
  • Assembly of Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Besides 131 municipal mayors and 10 city mayors the voters at the 2016 Local Elections will elect 3136 councilors whereof 26 are representatives of national minorities.

A total of 451 political subjects are participating in the elections, whereof:



  • 102 political parties;
  • 103 coalitions;
  • 171 independent candidates;
  • 17 lists of independent candidates;
  • 52 independent candidates on behalf of 52 groups of citizens, and
  • 6 independent candidates on behalf of 6 citizens' associations

A total of 30.455 candidates are certified whereof 418 candidates for municipal/city mayors, 29.884 candidates for municipal/city assemblies/councils and Assembly of Brčko District of BiH, and 143 candidates representatives of national minorities.

Voters:

On august 25 the BiH Central Election Commission passed the Decision on concluding and confirming Central Voters' Register for 2016 Local Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

     A total of 3.263.906 voters is registered in the Central Voters’ Register as follows:

- number of regular voters for 2016 Local Elections as on August 18, 2016 at 24:00 hours is 3.177.557
-    number of voters having status of a displaced person voting in absentia is 8.946;
-   number of voters having status of a displaced person voting in person is 12.005;
-   number of voters voting at diplomatic-consular representation offices of BiH is 287 and
-   number of by-mail voters is 65.111.

Polling stations and mobile teams

A total of 5469 polling stations and 318 mobile teams are established in BiH.

We would like to remind that one polling station will be opened on October 2 in the following BiH consular-representation offices: BiH Embassy in Vienna, Honorary Consulate of BiH in Graz, General Consulate of BiH in München, General Consulate of BIH in Stuttgart and BiH Embassy in Belgrade.
