OSCE/ODIHR International Observation Mission to observe Local Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sarajevo, 29 August 2024 – Today, the core team of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) International Observation Mission, comprising Corien Jonker, Head of Mission; Stefan Krause, Deputy Head of Mission; Lenka Homolkova, Electoral Analyst; and Svetlana Chetaikina, Legal Analyst, visited the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During their visit, they announced that their observation mission will assess the electoral process in Bosnia and Herzegovina once again this year.

During the meeting, representatives of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina and ODIHR discussed the implementation of previous OSCE recommendations and exchanged information regarding the ongoing preparations for the Local Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, scheduled for 6 October. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the progress of the preparation process, noting that it is proceeding well and in accordance with the electoral calendar despite the challenges involved.

The OSCE/ODIHR International Observation Mission will assess the conduct of the elections to verify compliance with legal requirements, as well as OSCE and other international obligations and standards for democratic elections.
