Commencement of the Workshop on Digital Technologies in the Election Process in BiH

Sarajevo, 4 September 2024 – The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in collaboration with the Venice Commission, is organizing a two-day workshop in Sarajevo focused on the application of digital technologies in the election process.

The workshop will bring together experts and election officials to discuss innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the transparency and efficiency of elections.

On the first day, topics such as biometric voter identification, automatic transmission of results, and video surveillance during vote counting will be addressed. The second day will focus on practical case studies and crisis management in situations where technology fails, including alternatives such as paper-based solutions.

The workshop will conclude with closing remarks from Dr. Irena Hadžiabdić, President of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Srđan Darmanović, Professor of Comparative Politics, Member of the Venice Commission for Montenegro; and Mamuka Longurashvili, Legal Advisor to the Venice Commission. They will summarize the discussions and emphasize the importance of continued cooperation in modernizing the electoral process.
